Atlantic Container Line to Launch US-Baltic Ro-Ro Service

8 February 2012

Atlantic Container Line later this month will launch a weekly roll-on, roll-off service from the U.S. and Canada to Finland and Russia.

The service will deploy ACL’s trans-Atlantic vessels and ice class ships operated by Finnlines, a sister company in Italy’s Grimaldi group. ACL said the service offers the fastest and most frequent link between North America and the Baltic Sea region.

ACL’s ships arrive in Antwerp on Thursdays and will link up with Finnlines vessels, which sail on Saturdays to Helsinki, Kotka and St Petersburg. Cargo loaded in New York, Baltimore, Norfolk and Halifax will move under a single ACL through bill of lading to the Finnish and Russian ports.

“Our customers have been asking us for a better Baltic Sea connection for quite some time. This new service gives us another niche where we can do something better than anybody else,” said ACL President and CEO Andrew Abbott.
