Container Throughput in Ukraine
19 January 2012
The ports of Ukraine in 2011 handled 759,695 TEU – a 16.1% growth on 2010.
The port of Odessa went up by 29.6% to 453,7 thousand TEU, while Ilyichevsk dropped by 0.9% to 300,5 thousand TEU.
TIS terminal in Yuzhny, launched in the end of November 2011, handled just over 4,000 TEU serving Maersk’s deep sea service Ecumed.
In December 2011 all the Ukrainian ports were down, Odessa lost 7.1% month-on-month, Ilyichevsk 6.3% and Yuzhny 30.9%. The aggregate country ports’ result was 8.5% below that achieved in November.
Market sources explain the decrease by customs control constraints in ports, which led to some traffic diverting to either other countries’ ports or to land borders.
