MISC Berhad decided to exit the container liner business

7 December 2011

MISC Berhad decided to exit the container liner business effective June 2012. The company was founded in November 1968 as Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Berhad to encourage the development of Malaysia's shipping industry and foreign trade. MISC's main deepsea trade was traditionally the Europe-Far East as a partner of consecutive consortia, such as ScanDutch, the Global Alliance and the Grand Alliance.

It resigned from the latter grouping effective January 2010 to focus on the wider intra-Asia routes (Middle East-Australia and all areas in between) thereby specialising in the carriage of Halal products. It currently operates a fleet of 20 units of between 700 TEU and 4,500 TEU, total 45,000 TEU.
