Maersk boosts capacity on East Coast of S.America
16 March 2012
Maersk Line will more than double capacity of its North Europe-East Coast South America Samba service, currently deploying 3,200 TEU tonnage. Until it has received a full complement of 7,500 TEU Sam-Max newbuildings, the Danish carrier will continue to deploy smaller vessels, operating in tandem for part of the voyage. They will load simultaneously in Europe (Tilbury, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven and Antwerp) but thereafter have a different rotation, as follows:
- Loop 1 - Santos, Paranagua, Itapoa
- Loop 2 - Algeciras, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio Grande
Due to the above, inventively-designed expansion of capacity, Maersk Line will reduce its North Europe-East Coast South America slot charter on MSC’s SAEC1 loop. It will henceforth use this allocation, sold as Samex, for shipments to/from Navegantes (South Brazil, opposite Itajai) only.
