MSC Sets Peak-Season Surcharge in Asia-Europe Trade

13 July 2012

Mediterranean Shipping Co. will impose a peak-season surcharge on westbound trade from Asia to Europe, starting Aug. 1.

The Geneva-based carrier will charge $350 per 20-foot equivalent unit on cargo from Asia to North Europe and the Mediterranean.

The move follows a similar surcharge announcement by Hapag-Lloyd on Asia-Europe trade lanes, which takes effect Aug. 1 and lasts until Sept. 30.

Separately, MSC said it would apply a $300 per TEU peak-season surcharge on shipments from Asia to Australia, effective Aug. 15.
